December 3rd is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was established in 1992. The aim of the day is to promote understanding of people with disabilities and to strengthen support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of these people. The International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3rd is a day intended to help everyone develop more compassion and understanding for the challenges faced daily by people with disabilities. Currently, about 9.6 million people with a disability live in Germany, which accounts for nearly 12% of the total population. Almost all of these people face challenges every day that affect their daily life as well as their condition itself.

How Therapy blankets can help people with physical and mental disabilities

The deep pressure created when applying the heavy blankets sends the brain the same signal as a hug. Research on the therapeutic effects of deep pressure stimulation therapy on the brain shows a decrease in the stress hormone cortisol as well as an increase in the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine, which contribute to regulating mood, impulse control, body movement, and more. This change in the brain's chemical composition leads to less stress, more relaxation, and better sleep.

Reduction of hypertonic muscle tone through Therapy blankets

People with physical and mental disabilities are often exposed to a persistent hypertonic muscle tone, which can lead to increased stress levels. The weight of the blanket can help those affected regulate muscle hypertonus and relax better.

Reduce obsessive-compulsive disorders

People suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder often have difficulty controlling their persistent obsessive thoughts and behaviors. This can make it hard to fall asleep and stay asleep. Although OCD looks a little different in each person, it has a common cause: a low serotonin level. Weighted blankets can help alleviate the severity of symptoms and promote restful sleep.

Relieves restless legs

The tingling and crawling sensations as well as the urge to constantly move the restless leg can make sleep almost impossible. The symptoms of restless legs syndrome often worsen when lying down, mainly due to an overactive nervous system. Over time, the syndrome can even lead to chronic insomnia, which in turn can have negative effects on health.

The release of serotonin and melatonin as well as other endorphins that the deep pressure of the Therapy blanket can induce may help people with disabilities better manage their symptoms and convey an overall sense of calm and well-being.
