"Especially with toddlers, the blanket can be used as a quiet time and signal that the child is allowed to actively relax."

How did you come across the concept of therapy blankets?

I was contacted by Therapiedecken.de and immediately agreed to test the therapy blanket. From my work in child and adolescent psychiatry, I am familiar with the concept of holding. In cases of strong emotions, children and adolescents are held, not restrained, thus restoring their external awareness. A weighted blanket represents a similar mechanism, so I was very interested.

How do you personally feel about using a weighted blanket?

Since I also advise parents with babies and toddlers with sleep problems in my part-time job, I ordered the blanket for my 17-month-old son and tested it on him. The motifs for toddlers are beautifully designed, the workmanship and feel are impeccable, and the weight is distributed very evenly. I used the blanket for my son during his daytime naps and noticed a good recovery. We also used the blanket during his rest period after childcare, and there too, it was very pleasant for my son and promoted his state of relaxation.

In your opinion, in which medical fields is the use of therapy blankets beneficial?

I can envision working in child and adolescent psychiatry or therapy, as well as with toddlers over one year old. Especially with toddlers, the blanket can be used as a quiet break, signaling that the child is allowed to actively relax. Rituals are very important at this age. For instance, the blanket can be introduced as a sign for the upcoming nap or used with anxious children after childcare.

Your Personal Conclusion

I am very satisfied with the weighted blanket I tested! Both the quality craftsmanship and the versatile uses impressed me. Personally, I will use the blanket for my son during active rest periods and daytime naps. Professionally, I can envision using the blanket both as a baby sleep consultant and in child and adolescent psychiatry, and will recommend it to parents at appropriate times. I will also gladly request the purchase of a therapy blanket for use in child and adolescent psychiatry.
