How to stay calm even in exceptional situations

Everyone knows the moments when you feel helpless and overwhelmed. The current exceptional situation takes this helplessness and uncertainty to a new level, which for many people can turn into panic or anxiety.
These reactions of our body and mind not only paralyze us but also wear us down over time. The new everyday life sneaks along and does not want to be properly recognized as a permanent state. A few weeks ago everything was still normal and now life stands still?
External life may come to a halt, but the inner life is active and does not know what to do with all the thoughts and feelings. The tips scream for daily structure, plans, and order. But we want to help with some calmness and peace.
Build less pressure and expectations
Especially now, when most of the time is spent at home, it is easy to feel like the blanket is closing in on you. For many, home also becomes the workplace and the private mixes with the professional more than ever before.
This can be a big challenge and greatly increase the pressure to function as usual. At the moment the world is upside down, so have understanding for yourself and your fellow human beings: Be less strict and set smaller goals that you can still be proud of at the end of the workday.
You should reduce pressure not only professionally but also privately. The time at home can suddenly be used for many things that usually get too little attention. Finally read the book, paint the picture, clean out the closet, do the gardening – notice something? That sounds like big expectations you place on yourself. Distance yourself from doing everything just to have it done. Instead, choose a few things you really feel like doing again and focus your motivation and energy on them.
Create more acceptance and awareness
Still, restlessness and uncertainty sometimes spread? Often we try to suppress negative feelings and thoughts and deny their existence, which can worsen the effect. Allow yourself to be afraid, but also make sure that fear does not determine your everyday life. It can help to watch the news only once or twice a day. You stay up to date but are not constantly confronted with reports.
To give the mind a break and sort thoughts more consciously, meditation can also be particularly helpful. For both experienced and beginners, meditating can become a valuable ritual that can provide deep relaxation during bad thoughts, work breaks, or before going to sleep. Meditations with different focuses provide enough variety. We recommend, for example, the Inhale Life Podcast, which offers free meditations for every suitable situation.
And keep going!
When your head is smoking with worries, we often neglect the simplest things, like enough sleep or regular meals. Therefore, even in these uncertain times, always take care of yourself. No matter what happens during the day, your needs remain important. If you find this harder than usual, consciously plan more time for it. Also allow beautiful moments – this will not make you unempathetic but will give you hope and strength. To end the day perfectly, feel free to reach for your weighted blanket, which gently embraces and relaxes you.
Take care of yourself & stay healthy!
