Health insurance coverage / Extraordinary burden in the tax declaration

Therapy blankets are a means of aid for many of our customers with illnesses, complaints, and symptoms. The question arises as to how the procurement of a therapy blanket can be financially supported and thus enable even more people to benefit from the advantages of the blanket for their health.

So far, a weighted blanket is not listed in the aid catalog of most health insurance companies, so usually no subsidy is guaranteed. Nevertheless, it is worth submitting an application because costs can also be covered outside the regulations. This should ideally be done with the recommendation letter and/or the prescription of a doctor, alternative practitioner, or therapist, and before the purchase.

If all applications are rejected, there is still the possibility to claim the costs of the therapy blanket for tax purposes. There are some things to consider. A weighted blanket can be declared in the tax return as an "extraordinary burden." The prerequisite is that the limit of reasonable burden (depending on income, number of children, and marital status) has already been exceeded. A prescription from a doctor is also necessary as proof, showing the necessity.

In any case, you should try with your health insurance or the responsible tax office. Because even if weighted blankets are not explicitly listed with health insurance companies or do not meet the requirements for tax deduction, the possibilities should be utilized.
