Our sleep study: Sleep better with a weighted blanket
Our sleep study on the effects of weighted blankets
We wanted to know more precisely. That is why we conducted our own study on the effect of weighted blankets. 100 participants and some interesting findings.
The research objective
The aim of the study was to determine the effects of using a weighted blanket on the human body.
Our weighted blankets are made under the careful eyes of professionals who take care of the health and functionality of each blanket. We are constantly seeking new insights and familiarizing ourselves with scientific studies in which weighted blankets are used.
So far, it has been scientifically proven that weighted blankets are an invaluable aid in the therapy of children with neurological developmental disorders such as autism or ADHD, helping to fall asleep and influencing sleep quality.
The three phases of the study
Phase 1 (Week 1)
In the first phase of our study, participants slept under their usual day blanket for one week. Every day, they filled out a wellness card and noted the results displayed on their watch.
Phase 2 (Weeks 2 and 3)
In the second phase of the study, they received a weighted blanket from us, weighing 10-15% of the patient's body weight. For two weeks, they recorded their feelings when using the weighted blanket and logged objective results on their smartwatch.
Phase 3 (Week 4)
In the final phase of the study, participants returned to their light blankets and filled out a daily wellness card and the measurements from the wristband.
The results of our sleep study
Notably, none of the respondents experienced any discomfort related to using the weighted blanket. No one commented on the weight, type of filling, or the materials it was made from. Still, 90% emphasized that the blanket is very soft and pleasant to the touch.
The majority of test participants experienced a significant improvement in their sleep quality – namely 82% of participants. According to their own reports, they feel calmer and safer, their attention span and daily routine have improved.
75% of respondents stated that the weighted blanket helped them fall asleep more easily, that they sleep peacefully, and that the heavy blanket gives them a sense of security. Thanks to their long, uninterrupted sleep, they feel rested during the day.
For 78% of respondents, the weighted blanket contributed to reducing stress levels. The weighted blanket works especially well for people who suffer from constant tension and stress.
40% of study participants reported that they also reach for the weighted blanket during the day to relax and calm themselves.
Evaluation of sleep quality
The participants provided a daily rating of their sleep using a scale. The highest perceived sleep quality was reached in the third week of the sleep study, when the participants had already been sleeping with the weighted blanket for more than a week. The quality in terms of falling asleep and depth of sleep steadily decreased in the fourth week without the weighted blanket.
I live a fast-paced life with many professional and family responsibilities. All of this made it difficult for me to relax and fall asleep in the evening. At first, I wasn't completely convinced. During the first 7 nights, I didn't notice any change and was already thinking about returning the weighted blanket early. But then I changed my mind and decided to participate in the study until the end. It was a good decision. My body began to accept the strain, I finally felt relaxed and was able to sleep better. Now I really can't imagine sleeping without a weighted blanket.
I learned about weighted blankets from my physiotherapist. I decided to try it because I was struggling with sleep problems. I noticed the first effects after 5 days. The pleasant wrap is now my daily companion. I love spending time under the weighted blanket when I need a moment to relax and switch off.
